Dr. Sasi K Kottayil

Advisory Board - Head | Renewable Energy & Smart Grid Expert

Dr. Sasi K Kottayil is a distinguished authority in renewable energy with a 40-year career spanning academia, industry consulting, and high-level technical advisory. He holds his foundational and postgraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering, crowned by a doctoral degree focused on Utility Scale Wind Electricity Generation.


His extensive academic career began in 1984, holding senior faculty positions at prominent institutions including the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Tezpur University, and the Manipal Institute of Technology. He retired in 2020 as a Professor in Electrical Engineering from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, Coimbatore, where he made significant contributions to research and curriculum.


Dr. Kottayil is a prominent figure in the energy sector. He is a Fellow and Past President of the Society of Energy Engineers and Managers (SEEM) and serves as an Editorial Advisor to its Energy Manager magazine. For the past decade, he has served as a Renewable Energy consultant, specializing in Renewable Energy and Smart Micro Grids. His advisory impact is extensive, having served as Project Director for Ahalia Alternate Energy's 8.4 MW wind farm and as a key Consultant to the Swedish Consortium developing the E4T Microgrid Concept for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.


His government and policy-level contributions include serving on the Technical Committee of ANERT (Govt of Kerala) for wind farm development for over a decade and as a member in the R&D subgroups of the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET, Govt of India).

A dedicated researcher, Dr. Sasi was the Principal Investigator for the DST-VINNOVA funded Indo-Swedish project on smart grid energy management. At Amrita University, he developed an advanced Renewable Energy laboratory featuring a Smart Micro Grid Simulator and established PG Diploma programmes in Wind Energy in collaboration with C-WET.


His contributions have earned numerous accolades, including the IET Premium Award (2016), Elsevier's "Outstanding Reviewer" (2014), the Kerala State Energy Conservation Commendation (2009), and a European Union Fellowship to the Salzburg Seminar (2008). He has published over 100 research papers, delivered more than 200 invited lectures, and continues to guide Ph.D. students in the field of energy.
